Christmas Time

I kind of forgot I had a blog. Good thing no one reads it!

I've got one week till I go back to school but it sure was been a sweet break.

Christmas time is awesome for a number of reasons:

1. Time with friends and family.
2. Halo and Age of Empires II lan parties.
3. Sleeping in
4. Eating
5. Jesus!

There's a lot more that I can't be bothered to think of.

One of Life's Greatest Mysteries

Does throwing an "lol" on the end of something sad or serious make it all good? lol.

Term 1 = Done (Youtube?)

Today I finished my first term of college. This past weekend I spent most of my time finishing 3 projects. The big one was my major film, which me and my group poured many hours into (also blood sweat and tears... maybe not that last one...) I wonder what kind of mark we'll get on it, but frankly, I don't care. I'm happy with it, sure there are a million little things that could be better, but as is I think it's more than fine.

I'll try and get the film onto youtube... I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to exporting video with Final Cut... 5 gigs is a bit too big to upload to youtube...

Ah, youtube.... I forgot about you... I haven't made any legit videos in FOREVER. My apologies to those of you who watch my videos. Hopefully over the Christmas break I'll get some vids done. I won't have any excuses, I got no school and friends will be around (I hope :P) whoa, did I just do that?

Oh it's my mom's birthday, I need to call home...

Some Quotes... n' stuff

"Fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, and riches take wings. Only one thing endures and that is character." - Horace Greeley

I just saw that was one of my "favorite quotes" on my Facebook profile... don't remember putting it there or where it came from.

This quote I saw on Twitter:

"An amateur practices until they get it right, a professional practices until they can't get it wrong."

It's true. I need sleep.

OH! So I went to school today only to be there for 10 minutes before we were told to leave.... great use of class time right there... So pretty much today I listened to The Devil Wears Prada's Zombie EP (cause I bought it today) and ... yeah mostly did that.

Bolwing for Columbine / RIP!

So this Michael Moore documentary came out 8 years ago but I finally just saw it today (thanks to Netflix). This was actually the second documentary I watched today. The first was RIP! A Remix Manefesto, it's about copyright. You can check out the site right here: http://films.onf.ca/rip-a-remix-manifesto/

After seeing these two films today I just need to quote Thrice, "ALL THE WORLD IS MAD"

There's probably thousands upon thousands of rants about the topics discussed in these films. I would recommend watching both of them. One thing I found interesting in Rip! was that Walt Disney copied the past (all those old Disney movies are based on fairy tales and what not) and after he died the company got the US government to change copyright laws so no one could do the same.

A lot of the movie was about music. Personally, I like to own physical CDs, so I go to stores and buy them. I think if you like an artist or band you should support them by buying their music, going to shows and buying merch (just as long as it's not over priced...)

Anyway. What's crazier is how things like plants and ideas can be copyrighted. There are patents on medical research that keep other scientists and doctor like people from developing them further, so pretty much things like cancer research are hindered by copyrights. I don't know much about the subject but I want to research this further myself.

It reminded me about what my pastor said this past Sunday. In an illustration he mentioned that Mercedes Benz developed some sort of safety feature that would save lives and even though they patented it they allowed other car manufacturers to use it. They said something like, "some things are too good not to share". The illustration was that me (or we) as Christians know something important. We know Jesus saves, so why would we keep that to our selves? I'm not the greatest at witnessing so I could always use a kick in the pants.

Sooo... I started typing with only Bowling for Columbine on my mind... Firstly it made Canadian's look kind of dumb. I lock my door. "You're always safe in the country" That's an inside joke. I like the documentary and what it's trying to do but one part was stupid. Michael Moore, with two students who were shot at Columbine, went to K Mart head quarters and got them to stop selling 9mm bullets. They thought this would DO something. I don't want to belittle Columbine or the people effected by it, but K Mart not selling 9mm bullets won't do a thing. Even if they didn't sell GUNS. Firstly (wait.. secondly?) guns don't kill people, people (with guns) kill people. If K Mart doesn't have bullets they'll go to Walmart or hey maybe even get them illegally. I don't know much about this stuff but up here in Canada we've got some kind of gun control (right?) but the people killing people with guns get them illegally. Don't know where I'm going with this but yeah...

It's all about money. The huge corporations. Fear driving people to consume. Um.. am I making sense? I may sound like a crazy person but I'm not. I don't think everyones out to get me. Just my money ;) OH! Winky face!

Assistant To The Regional Manager

These writings are to those who have wept.
These writings are to those who haven't looked deeply enough into the correct resolution.
Wrong again but stronger now, we can face this.
Fight life with life.

All glory to the one in existence.
Bring upon your name, your grace, your everything.

Hold hands and stare into the circle.
what are we looking at?
Rumors and rumors and rumors.
Assembly: Disintegration.
Perish.
Tombstones serve as mirrors and the graves are infinite.
Take a look through the lens and through your eyes.
End the partitioning.
wrong again but stronger now, we can face this.
fight life with life.
Enemies, we'll go for your throat.

-THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

Oh those hardcore bands... This past Tuesday I saw The Devil Wears Prada live for the second time.... but I've never actually "seen" seen them... The first time was at Cornerstone Festival 2009. Due to rain the main stage was moved to a tent and cause of the smoke and crowd and the way the stage was it was hard to see them. I didn't mosh.

And this past Tuesday I did mosh cause moshing is awesome (in my defense the first time I saw them was the 4th day of Cornerstone and I had been moshing for THREE DAYS) I didn't see them good because I broke my glasses. Well someone else broke them by stepping on them after they flew off my face from moshing to hard to For Today (gave a nice shout out to Jesus, which is cool). So I stood around for Silverstien not really seeing anything... Then I let the beast out for TDWP! I only suffered two minor injuries! It was a good show.

Scott went with me and we met up with Brodin there. I had met Scott at noon that day at Portage Place then we buses to Polo to get his junk then to my place. He stayed the night and chilled there all Wednesday while I went to school for seven hours. We had the following conversation via text message:

Dave (me): So what did you do today?

Scott: Played some halo watched rambo killed fidel castro

When I got home I asked Scott what he ate. He said an orange. Then he ate toast and Captain Crunch at 3:40. Oh and he wore cut off shorts to the concert. I love that man. Good times.

Anyways... I love how hardcore songs have the most random titles ever. A refference to The Office? Sure! Other crazy song title from The Devil Wears Prada include: Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over, Goats On A Boat, HTML Rulez D00d, Reptar, King Of The Ozone,I Hate Buffering and pretty much all other songs by them.
